This very large painting depicting the Port of Cannes was painted by the artist from the window of his apartment at 6 Quai St. Pierre in Cannes, South of France. These so-called 'Open Window' paintings with sailboats in the background are very popular with collectors of the work of Jules Cavailles. The size of this painting is exceptional, normally he used a size 25F (81 x 65 cm) canvas or sometimes a 30F (92 x 73 cm) canvas. A work with this subject and size is rare.
